Explorer Room

The Explorers are a part time preschool program for children ages 3 years to 5 years old.

Curriculum

Our Part-time Preschool program offers children a chance to explore friendships, drama, music, movement, art, language, science and more in a group setting. Our play-based, emergent curriculum allows us the opportunity to offer the children a variety of activities based on their interests and developmental levels. We also assist children with learning to work in a group setting, using language to interact with their friends and to constructively resolve their differences.

The program offers you a choice of Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Tuesday, Thursday, or all five days from either 9:00 am-11:30 am, or 1:00 pm-3:30 pm. There is even extended care available before and after all programs.

What do you love most about working with children?

I love how their fearlessness to explore and look at life in new ways provides me with inspiration and joy. Each day I walk into my room expecting to walk out a better person because of the children I encounter.

What are you complimented on most in your work?

I am complimented on my experiments and materials explorations with children and taking our thinking to the next level. I am not afraid of messes, mixes or trying something new on the spot if a child's wonder takes us there in an instant.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love spending time at our lake house with my family chopping wood, sewing, knitting or reading a book overlooking nature. I also have a passion for sports and watching my son and granddaughters play baseball, soccer, t-ball and basketball. Being engaged with family, friends and the community is a true delight.

What do you love most about working with children?

The language. It is the best when we are able to just sit back and listen to their conversations; and in the conversations we hear the way they think things through.

What are you complimented on most in your work?

People have said that I am quite and warm hearted; a good listener.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love being outside when it is warm, hiking, biking, etc. Also, my second job is teaching group fitness classes which I love.

What do you love most about working with children?

It's all about the language. I would walk around with a tape recorder if I could so I didn't miss a word.

What are you complimented on most in your work?

My language with children. Also, my calm, direct, matter of fact approach to working with children.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am never without a book to read. I also like to garden and spend time with my grand kids.

Discipline

The After School Program has three primary rules for our classroom: be safe, be kind, and be respectful. The children need to make personal choices that follow these rules. Teachers will assist the children if they are having a difficult time making choices. If these choices persist then the teachers will be talking to parents and consulting with our director.

We have a ZERO TOLERANCE for all forms of intimidation and bullying. We appreciate your support in helping to reinforce these rules in our classroom.

Home Toys

Toys from home are both wonderful and a problem area for us. On the one hand, it is exciting to have a different toy to play with at After School. On the other hand, we have had problems with toys not being shared with others and also with toys/cards being exchanged/traded. This can cause disruption and ill feelings between children.

If a toy is shared with one child, our expectation is that it be shared with all. There is no card/toy swapping in our classroom. If children attempt to make trades, the items will be removed and given to parents at pick up time. Any problems that arise from home toy may lead to these toys being limited in the classroom.
